The ERIS team will organise a panel in the context of the 2022 SGRI Conference, organized by the University for Foreigners of Perugia and the Italian Political Science Association, which will be held in Perugia from 16 to 17 June.

The panel on “Jihad in Africa: Terrorism and Counterterrorism in the Sahel” aims at opening the floor for a debate within the Italian community of IR scholars about the Sahel, a region that has obtained an unprecedented international attention during the last ten years.

Gathering contributions that propose in-depth and empirically rich analyses of different aspects of the crisis in the Sahel, and tackle the issue from different academic angles, the panel will discuss the theoretical and practical implications of the interconnected dynamics of terrorism and counterterrorism in the area. Building on this, the panel will also introduce to the interested audience the recently published edited volume “Jihad in Africa: Terrorismo e Controterrorismo in Sahel” - Il Mulino (Bologna).
